KASARGOD: Six persons surrendered before police in connection with the murder of Abdul Salam, an accused in a murder case, on Wednesday. They are likely to be formally arrested on Friday.

The key suspect Siddique is among the suspects who surrendered. Siddique reportedly told police that eight persons were involved in the murder on April 30 which was triggered by a dispute over sand smuggling.

A truck owned by Siddique was seized for illegally transporting sand. He suspected that the police were tipped off by Abdul Salam and threatened him for that. Later, Abdul Salam and three friends had reportedly gone to Siddique's house to avenge the insult. They pointed a gun at him and assaulted him, police said.
After that, Salam and his friends were picked up by police for roaming under 'suspicious circumstances' at around 1 am on April 30. They were later let off. A few hours after that, Salam was found murdered with his head severed and thrown 30 m away from the body at Maliyankara fort in Kumbla. Naushad, who was with him, was injured in the attack. At the crime scene, police found two motorcycles and an autorickshaw.

Abdul Salam was an accused in the murder of Shafeeq, son of former Kumbla panchayat member Muhammed. Salam's friend Naushad, who survived the attack, is the third accused in the Shafeeq murder case.
