Who’s the police chief, asks angry Opposition; CM Pinarayi keeps mum

Smarting over Pinarayi’s “evasive attitude” to their queries on the state police chief, the Opposition boycotted Assembly proceedings on Tuesday.

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Smarting over Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan’s “evasive attitude” to their queries on the state police chief, the Opposition boycotted Assembly proceedings on Tuesday at the fag end of the day’s legislative business.

Later, Opposition Leader Ramesh Chennithala told reporters the Chief Minister has evaded around 133 questions raised by Opposition MLAs pertaining to the Home Department held by the CM.

“Though such questions are given advance notice of at least 10 days, there has been no response,” Chennithala said.

The Opposition has apprised the Speaker of the matter and expects his urgent intervention, he said.
“We expected the Chief Minister to make his stand clear on who the state police chief is at least during his reply speech to the discussion on demands for grants. But he showed scant regard to the Opposition’s right to know,” the Opposition Leader said.
