The government has taken steps to ensure the textbooks will be provided to the schools before the start of the coming academic year, Education Minister C Raveendranath told the Assembly on Wednesday.

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The government has taken steps to ensure the textbooks will be provided to the schools before the start of the coming academic year, Education Minister C Raveendranath told the Assembly on Wednesday.

Raveendranath was responding to a submission by M Ummer of the Muslim League (IUML). The printing of textbooks from Classes I to X will be carried out in three volumes.

The tentative order for printing the textbooks had been given to the Kerala Books and Publications Society (KPBS) in September and printing was  under way.

Directions have been issued for distributing the first volume of textbooks for Classes IX and X for the 2017-18 academic year before April 20. The textbooks for Classes I- VIII will be distributed to the school societies before May 20, Raveendranath said.

Officers have been designated at the district level to facilitate the hassle-free distribution of textbooks.
Complaint redressal system and e-monitoring facility will be implemented, he said.

The Kerala State Centre for Advanced Printing & Training (C-APT)  has been assigned the job of printing the textbooks for Classes XI and XII.  He said the distribution of textbooks for Class XII has already begun in all the districts.
