KOTTAYAM: Electricity Minister M M Mani on Saturday said he was portrayed as a staunch supporter of encroachments in Munnar only because he always stood by farmers and settlers in Idukki.

He was inaugurating a public meeting held as part of the Kerala Police Association district conference here. Mani said there was a deliberate move to portray the migrant farmers in Idukki as encroachers.

“I am being targeted as I always opposed  such moves, in my own style. I am not ready to change my style, which is like forfeiting my identity,” he said.

Mani sought to know what the people, who had come out against encroachments in Idukki, gained after all.

Taking a dig at Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader C R Neelakandan, Mani said those who raised voice against encroachments did not know the geography and history of Idukki.

Mani said implicating political rivals on trumped up charges was not the LDF Government’s policy.
