Ration card distribution set to begin soon in Kerala

The stage is set for the distribution of ration cards prepared in accordance with the provisions of the National Food Security Act, 2013.

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The stage is set for the distribution of ration cards prepared in accordance with the provisions of the National Food Security Act, 2013. The distribution will begin in Kollam district on May 22 and in other districts on June 1. A decision to this effect was taken at a meeting chaired by Food and Civil Supplies Minister P Thilothaman on Saturday.

Around 80 lakh ration cards in four categories - with different colour for each category - have been readied for distribution. While AAY category cards are yellow in colour, the priority category cards will don pink colour. The state subsidy and general category cards are coloured blue and white respectively.

The cards will be distributed through the respective PDS outlets or any other convenient place nearby. Card holders will be intimated through the media about the place, date and time of card distribution. The cards will be distributed at the centres from 9.30 am to 5 pm.

The card holder or any person nominated by him can receive the cards on production of identification documents. The existing ration card will be cancelled, sealed and handed back to the card holder. While the priority category cards are price at Rs 50, the general category cards cost Rs 100.

Those who have been included in the priority list as per the final list but who were found ineligible for that category will be included in the general category during re-ranking. In order to rectify mistakes, if any, in ration cards, the card holders can submit applications from July at the respective taluk supply offices.

The revised lists will be available for scrutiny from May 22 in Kollam and from May 25 in other districts at the PDS outlets and taluk supply offices. Those who have revised the ration cards but have not yet received it due to technical flaws will be entitled to allocation as per the new list. Those who want to end ration supply can surrender their cards at the distribution centres.
