Attack on constitutional rights: IUML

The IUML state committee has expressed its strong protest against the ban on cattle trade and slaughter by the Centre terming it politically and practically wrong.

MALAPPURAM: The IUML state committee has expressed its strong protest against the ban on cattle trade and slaughter by the Centre terming it politically and practically wrong.

“The party will raise its dissent inside and outside the legislature and judicial institutions,” state general secretary K P A Majeed told mediapersons here on Friday.

He termed the ban an attack on constitutional rights. “The notification is aimed at imposing a blanket ban on cattle trade and slaughter,” he said.

“The government is trying to intervene in the religious freedom of the citizens. The notification also prohibits sacrifice, which is a religious right granted by the Constitution. We can’t accept it,” he said.
