Broadband internet facility provided in all primary schools, says Education Minister

All government, as well as aided schools in the state, have been equipped with broadband internet facility in the lower primary and upper primary levels, before the start of the new academic year.

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: All government as well as aided schools in the state have been equipped with broadband internet facility in the lower primary and upper primary levels, before the start of the new academic year, Education Minister C Raveendranath said on Friday. 


He also released the Information and Communication Technology-enabled textbook named ‘e@vidya’ for classes five to seven at a function held at the Secretariat.  

A special operating system and digital content, developed by IT@School Project, for primary schools was also released. ICT-enabled teaching has been introduced in the primary and upper primary levels on the lines of ICT education in high schools.

Last year, ICT-enabled textbooks named ‘Kalippetti’ were distributed to students from Classes I to IV. Training was also imparted to 32,100 LP school teachers. During the summer vacation, an additional 38,502 teachers were given specialised ICT training. In all, 70,602  teachers will be imparting ICT education this year at the primary and upper primary level.

More Smart Classrooms
The government will take steps to set up smart classrooms, multi-function printers and video conference facility in 9,377 government and aided schools. A Detailed Project Report to this effect will be prepared in June and submitted to the Kerala Infrastructure Investment Fund Board for approval.
