Government used Solar report for political gains: Chennithala

KOZHIKODE: Opposition leader Ramesh Chennithala here on Wednesday lashed out against the Left Democratic Front (LDF) Government for using the Solar Commission report to reap political gains.
He termed the actions of the government as ‘witch-hunting’ adding the UDF is well prepared to deal with the case politically and legally. He was speaking to the media here on Wednesday.   He criticised Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan for conducting a press conference regarding the Solar commission report before it was discussed in the Assembly.

“It was unusual for a government to speak in public about a confidential report before discussing it in the Assembly,” he said. “The Chief Minister had used the report for political gains. It is nothing but political vengeance.”  He severely criticised the government for spreading baseless allegations against senior politicians like Oommen Chandy, the former Chief Minister of the state, and former Ministers Aryadan Muhammed, A P Anilkumar, K C Venugopal MP and others who have had a clean political life without blemishes.

He said the commission will act as a boomerang against the government itself. “We are not scared of it. We are ready to face it,” he said. He asked why the government was reluctant to take action based on the report?

“It is now understood there is nothing in the Solar report. It is hollow. The aim of the government is to seek political vengeance by tarnishing the image of UDF leaders. It is very clear now. A month has passed and yet no action has been initiated.”  On the demonetisation anniversary, Chennithala said the Modi government’s decision to ban Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 notes a year ago has only helped capitalists.
He said when other countries are recovering from the economic slowdown and recession, demonetisation has plunged India and its citizens into economic instability.
