Nine arrested for attacking BJP buses

Three persons have been arrested in connection with the attack on buses carrying BJP workers to and from the party’s Janarakshayatra, said Kasargod police.

KASARGOD: Three persons have been arrested in connection with the attack on buses carrying BJP workers to and from the party’s Janarakshayatra, said Kasargod police.
With this, nine persons have been arrested for the attack carried out between Karivellur and Chaliyankode on Tuesday. On Wednesday, six persons were arrested and they have been remanded in custody, said district police chief K G Simon. Kasargod police said A Abdul Shafeek, 26, Riyaz, 27, and Muhammed Ashif, 26, of Melparamba were arrested on Thursday for throwing stones at the buses at Chaliyankode.

Police said 50 BJP workers were booked for assaulting two men on a motorcycle at Chaliyankode on Tuesday night in what was apparently a hate crime. The injured were identified as Rafeek, 28, an electrician of Melparamba, and Samad, 18, a first year degree student. The attack happened near the Chaliyankode bridge around 10.30 pm on Tuesday. The police said they were asked their name and then assaulted with stones and helmet.
