Beat police officers to interact with migrants

In the wake of the ongoing scare campaign that migrant labourers are not safe in the state, the state police have come up with many initiatives aimed at their safety.

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM:  In the wake of the ongoing scare campaign that migrant labourers are not safe in the state, the state police have come up with many initiatives aimed at their safety. State police chief Loknath Behera has given instructions to the district police chiefs to appoint Janamaithri beat police officers to regularly communicate with the migrant labourers.

The beat police officers have been asked to visit the places in their locality where migrant labourers stay and inquire about their safety and other issues. According to the report of the Beat Police officer, the district chief should take necessary action. The police chief has also directed the DySps to hold a meeting of the migrant labourers on a holiday and discuss their safety and other issues. Apart from this, he said regular meetings and cultural functions could be arranged for them with the cooperation of the Labour Department.
