‘BJP will promote healthy debate with CPM on development issues’

A healthy debate between the BJP and the CPM on developmental issues was not wrong though their views on the matter differed, BJP state president Kummanam Rajasekharan said on Thursday.

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: A healthy debate between the BJP and the CPM on developmental issues was not wrong though their views on the matter differed, BJP state president Kummanam Rajasekharan said on Thursday. ‘’But the key issue is how far Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan’s party would cooperate with it,’’ he said in a statement.

After BJP national president Amit Shah, during his recent Kerala visit, challenged Pinarayi Vijayan to fight in terms of ideology and development, the latter had hit back asking what debate did Shah mean when the union ministers were trying to destroy the peaceful life in the state.

The first and the foremost step needed for development and a debate on development is putting an end to conflict and the environment that fosters conflict, Kummanam said. If the Chief Minister was prepared for a sincere and healthy debate, that stand would be welcomed, he said in a statement. The said debate should be for understanding development and spreading knowledge about it, not for mere debate and victory, he said.
