KOCHI: The Kerala High Court on Wednesday asked the police to explain the circumstances under which they registered a case of outraging the modesty of woman against the Uber taxi driver, who was allegedly assaulted by three women in the city.Criticising the police for the same, the court also asked them to explain the facts of the case. It also restrained the cops from arresting driver Shefeeq of Kumbalam. The court issued the order while hearing Shefeeq’s anticipatory bail plea.

“How can the police register a case for outraging the modesty of a woman simply because women are complainant in the case? There should be something in the complaint for constituting the offence under IPC Section 354 (Assault or criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty).  The matter should be looked into in detail,” it said.
