Denying the reports that Akash Raveendran and Rajin Raj surrendered before the police, he said the two were nabbed by the police in the raids conducted at Tholambra on Sunday. “We conducted 55 raids in six days at different locations. We arrested them from this spot. The police can’t work according to the wishes of either the Congress party or the ruling party. What we are looking for is evidence to prove the crime. In the past year, no person was taken into custody on flimsy assumptions,” said Dewan.

The DGP said the arrested duo were involved in the crime. “In every crime, there will be a conspiracy. That conspiracy angle has to be proved with concrete evidence. More arrests will be made in the coming days. We have got some clinching leads regarding the others involved in the crime,” he said.He denied there was any laxity in the police investigation. “The theory that we are zeroing in on particular individuals is baseless. The arrested persons have criminal backgrounds and are affiliated to the CPM. The rest have to be proven in the coming days. We are not working on any assumptions. We will not fail in our duty to bring the culprits before the law.”

Backing the district police force, the DGP maintained the police have been exemplary in the investigation so far. He ruled out the possibility of the involvement of CPM prisoners who were on parole at the time the murder took place.

He also denied reports that information regarding the raids was being leaked to the culprits by the police themselves. “I can assure you no one in the police will betray our efforts. If anybody does such a thing, I will consider him a traitor who has no place in the police force.”Superintendent of Police G Shiva Vikram who was also present at the press conference denied reports there were rifts between him and the other officers on the investigation team. Kannur Range I G  Mahipal Yadav was also present.
