Kerala: Erumapetty police nab elusive undertrial

THRISSUR: Erumapetty police on Sunday caught accused Hussain aka Hashim, an undertrial who tried to escape from police custody on Saturday.

Hashim was taken into custody a couple of days back in connection with the suicide of his pregnant wife Jasmin. On Saturday, only two women police were present in the station when Hashim was locked up in his cell. On the pretext of using the washroom, Hashim attacked the female police personnel and ran away.

After launching an extensive search operation, the cops managed to nab him from near Nelluvay Dhanwatharii temple Sunday early morning.

A case was registered against Hashim for trying to escape from police custody and also for attacking the police personnel.

Jasmin's relatives had alleged that Hashim used to harass her seeking more dowry. The two got married in a mass wedding programme and her family had given 5 sovereign gold along with 5 sovereign by the organizing committee.

But, it has been alleged that soon after the marriage, Hashim started harassing harass her for more money. The relatives also alleged that Hashim never allowed his wife to talk or visit her mother or family.
