LDF likely to get one more legislator

Rumours are flying thick and fast the LDF is likely to get one more MLA taking its numbers in the Assembly from 92 to 93, including the Anglo Indian representative.

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Rumours are flying thick and fast the LDF is likely to get one more MLA taking its numbers in the Assembly from 92 to 93, including the Anglo Indian representative. A possible merger of Left-leaning Kerala Congress factions is also on the cards.

The political grapevine says the lone independent MLA in the House P C George is likely to be a part of the coalition and may be offered a Cabinet rank. However, George has rubbished the reports.

It is reported the Kerala Congress factions led by R Balakrishna Pillai, Francis George and Scaria Thomas would merge to form a new Kerala Congress faction. George reportedly would move to the LDF with a Cabinet post.

The merger is also part of a wider strategy to strengthen the Left position in central Kerala ahead of the elections. George, however, said no such move has even crossed his mind.

“You think of coalitions when the elections are approaching. I’m trying to strengthen the presence of my party Kerala Janapaksham in all 140 constituencies. I totally deny all these reports,” he said.
