PALAKKAD: Wild animals such as deer, wild boar and gaur that pose a threat to lives and crops should be killed and sold, Poonjar MLA PC George said while speaking at the district unit meeting of the Kerala Janapaksham here on Sunday.

The Forest Department should take the initiative to kill wild animals that stray into agricultural fields, he said.If such a step is taken, there won't be any threat from wild animals, he said, adding that it will provide revenue to the Forest Department, and the farmers will be a happy lot.

In Australia, the meat of the kangaroo - the country's national animal - is also sold, he said. However, I will not say to kill wild elephants, he said.It is because the people of Kerala are law-abiding that they are suffering, he said, adding that the Forest Department should go abroad and study how to regulate the population of wild animals.
