Nursing scam: Uthup Varghese let off on bail

Uthup was asked to furnish a bond of Rs one lakh and two solvent sureties and he should not leave the Ernakulam district limits without securing the court’s prior sanction.

KOCHI:  The Ernakulam Principal Sessions Court on Thursday granted bail to nursing recruitment scam accused Uthup M Varghese arrested by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) on money laundering charges.

The court laid down stringent conditions while enlarging him on bail.  Uthup was asked to furnish a bond of Rs one lakh and two solvent sureties and he should not leave the Ernakulam district limits without securing the court’s prior sanction.

Also, he is required to appear before the investigation officer(IO) on Saturdays and whenever summoned. Uthup, the proprietor of Al Zarafa Travels and Manpower Consultants, was arrested by the ED earlier this month. According to the ED, Uthup had collected around Rs 400 crore from the nurses who applied for the job with Kuwait’s Ministry of Health.
