THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Veteran Congress leader and former Chief Minister Oommen Chandy has hit out against party’s young leaders who have raised their opposition to renominate P J Kurien to the Rajya Sabha.  Speaking to Express, the AICC general secretary in charge of Andhra Pradesh said the criticism raised by the young brigade, led by MLAs and party officer bearers, was unwarranted at this juncture.

Chandy said that such criticisms should be raised within the party forums. But coming out in the open is not a sign of a healthy and mature political leadership. P J Kurien was nominated by the Congress president and it was the decision of the party and not that of Kurien.“It would mean these young leaders criticising the party president, which cannot be justified,” Chandy said.

Chandy, along with Opposition leader Ramesh Chennithala and KPCC president M M Hassan, will meet the Congress president on June 6 and 7. A final  decision of the new KPCC president will evolve after the meeting in Delhi. The KPCC president will be appointed with immediate effect and it will be followed by the party revamp, Chandy said.

The senior leader also said that the UDF convener will be announced after obtaining the consent of all the UDF constituents.Chandy also said that youth and women will be given proper representation in the party revamp and this will turn the party into a fighting force in the run up to the general elections.
