THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The government cannot provide jobs for all educated youths and hence skill development programmes are conducted to equip them for private sector jobs, Labour Minister T P Ramakrishnan said on Wednesday.
He was speaking after inaugurating the logo and website of state job portal of the Kerala Academy for Skills Excellence (KASE). About 75,000 candidates are passing out of the state’s ITIs, the minister said. There are about 1.50 lakh fresh job seekers every year, including those passing out from polytechnics and engineering colleges.
The government is planning to establish centres of excellence in emerging sectors in association with industries. Another plan is to provide industrial internship for students in industries. A labour bank will be formed to resolve the shortage of skilled and unskilled workers in traditional industries.
The labour bank will be a joint initiative of the Labour Commissionerate, Industries Training Department, KASE and employability centres. The labour bank will be linked with the new job portal.
It will have details of prospective employers and job seekers. The portal will publish opportunities only after verifying the credentials of the employer.
