Kerala: Withstanding resistance from CITU over staffers' transfer, workers enter Synthite plant

Mediatory talks called by the Industries Minister A C Moideen and the Labour Commissioner A Alexander had failed to settle the impasse that has been going on over 18 staffers of Synthite Industries.

KOCHI: The protest by CITU-backed Sunthite Employees Union (SIEU) stationed at Synthite Industries plant at Kadayirappa took an ugly turn when agitators hurled cow dung and tried to manhandle the employees, including women, who tried to enter the factory premises on Tuesday. The incident reportedly took place in the presence of the police.

The Synthite Industries spokesperson said withstanding the resistance put up by SIEU, close to 400 employees entered the factory premises on Tuesday. A few of these staffers came with their families.

Since the production at the factory was halted for the past 10 days, the employees will be working towards restarting the process today, he further added.

The mediatory talks called by the Industries Minister A C Moideen and the Labour Commissioner A Alexander had failed to settle the impasse that has been going on between the company management and SIEU, over the transfer of 18 of its staffers.

Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan had asked the Synthite Industries management to soften their stand on the issue on Monday.
