THIRUVANANTHAPURAM:ADGP (Battalion) Sudhesh Kumar was removed from the post after a police driver's complaint that he was assaulted by his daughter. State police chief Loknath Behera took the decision following a preliminary probe carried out by DCRB Assistant Commissioner R Prathapan Nair.
The investigation revealed the ADGP's daughter used the official car for a private purpose and assaulted driver Gavaskar. ADGP (headquarters) S Ananthakrishnan has been given additional charge of leading the armed police battalion while Sudhesh is not given any new role. It is learnt he will be moved to a state government department outside police.

The incident pertaining to the case took place last Thursday when Gavsakar, attached to the SAP camp, lodged a complaint to the Museum police against ADGP's daughter.Gavaskar alleged he was hit on his neck and shoulder by the ADGP's daughter with her mobile phone. The Museum police had also registered a non-bailable case against her by slapping Section 332 (voluntarily causing hurt to deter public servant from his duty).

My complaint to ADGP irked his daughter: Driver

Police sources said the incident happened when the daughter and wife of ADGP Sudesh Kumar were being driven to Kanakakunnu Palace ground for a morning walk.Gavaskar, who was admitted to the hospital, said his recent complaint to the ADGP about his daughter being rude to him might have led to the incident.
Based on the complaint filed by the officer’s daughter that she was attacked, the driver was also charged with a non-bailable case offence of outraging the modesty of a woman.  Earlier, Behera had assured an impartial probe into the incident. Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan also promised action based on the investigation and he had also sought a report from the DGP.

On Friday, Gavaskar’s wife and sister called on Pinarayi seeking speedy action. The Police Association lodged a complaint against the ADGP’s family with DGP Behera.Meanwhile, more complaints are coming up against the ADGP, with the police woman camp followers working in his residence alleging they were being ill-treated.

Former state police chief T P Senkumar told mediapersons that it was the responsibility of the police leadership to look after all police officers. “When I was heading the force, I had taken efforts to prevent these unhealthy practices. The feudalism in police force won’t sell in a state like Kerala,” said Senkumar.
Behera granted `50,000 as compensation to Gavsakar. It was granted from the Police Welfare Bureau, following a memorandum submitted by the Police Association.

Crime Branch to probe assault on Gavaskar

T’Puram: The Crime Branch will probe the police driver’s complaint that he was assaulted by the daughter of ADGP Sudhesh Kumar. The probe has been entrusted to ADGP (crimes) Shaikh Darvesh Saheb. The decision was taken after a meeting with the Police Association. The association will constitute a council to verify the issues being faced by cops. Meanwhile, there were fresh reports of senior officers exploiting lower-ranked cops. As per footage released by a TV channel, a cop was found bathing a dog at a senior officer’s house. According to the TV channel report, the cop was working at ADGP Nitin Agarwal’s residence.
