KANNUR: Five people from Narath near Kannur have been reportedly taken into custody by the Saudi Arabian police for giving SIM cards and money to members of terrorist organisations in the kingdom, police sources said.

They were caught by the Saudi police while trying to hand over the SIM cards and money to terrorists on the border with Yemen. While three men were taken into custody from the border, two women were held by the police during a raid at the apartment where they were staying. All the people taken into custody are from the same family and have been living in Saudi Arabia for the past 25 years.

It is alleged that the SIM cards given to the terrorists were procured by using fake identity cards.
The relatives of the women have reportedly approached the Indian Embassy in a bid to get them released, claiming that they have no connection with the terrorists. However, the Saudi police have not shared any official communication with the Indian investigation agencies regarding the five persons in their custody. Meanwhile, the NIA has received information that one of the family members escaped to India. Efforts are on to find his whereabouts.According to reports, they were taken into custody for a similar offence two years ago, but the police couldn’t gather enough evidence to get them convicted.
