KOCHI:The mother of an accused person in a case pertaining to the alleged forced conversion of a Pathanamthitta native has filed an anticipatory bail application before the NIA Court in Kochi on Monday.
Zeenath, the mother first accused Muhammed Riyaz, filed the bail plea after she was arraigned in the case by the NIA team.

In the petition, Zeenath claimed her son Muhammed Riyaz is admitted to a hospital in Kerala after he suffered injuries in a road accident recently. Currently, she is staying abroad with her family and wants to come to Kochi to take care of her ailing son. According to her, she is ready to comply with all the conditions imposed by the court if granted anticipatory bail.

The court has decided to hear the petition on Wednesday. The NIA will file an objection by the time. As the case is registered under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, there is no provision for granting anticipatory bail.

The case was first registered at the North Paravoor police station after the victim filed a complaint stating her husband forcibly converted her and made attempts to sell her to IS fighters after taking her to Saudi Arabia. She also raised rape charges against her husband. There are 11 accused in the case, of which three, including Riyaz, were arrested by the NIA after the latter took over the probe
