KOCHI:The Ernakulam Central Police will bring the Dubai-based Keralite, who threatened to kill Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, to Kochi after taking him into custody. At present, Krishnan Nair, 56, a native of Eramellur, near Kothamangalam, is in the custody of the New Delhi police who apprehended him from the airport after he landed there from Abu Dhabi on Monday evening, said officers.

“The Ernakulam Central Police will submit a production warrant before the Delhi court when Nair is produced before it on Thursday. Further action will be initiated only after he is taken into custody,” said Central CI Ananthalal. A team of Kochi City Police has gone to New Delhi for the purpose.

Earlier this month, Nair, on a Facebook Live video from UAE, had threatened to kill the Chief Minister. Following this, the Ernakulam Central Police earlier registered a case against him under the IT Act, IPC Section 153 (A) (Promoting enmity between different groups on grounds of religion, race, place of birth, residence, language and others and doing acts prejudicial to maintenance of harmony) and Section 120 (O) ( Penalty for causing nuisance and violation of public order) of the Kerala Police Act.

Declaring he was an RSS sympathiser and a former member, Nair had also passed casteist and derogatory remarks on Pinarayi and his family. Nair made the threat apparently in an inebriated state. In the Facebook Live session, Nair also threatened Pinarayi’s wife and daughter. “I am getting `2 lakh per month as salary for my job as senior rigging instructor. I will buy daggers. Once we decide to kill, we will do that,” he had said.

Nair, who was working in an Abu Dhabi-based company, lost his job after his post drew complaints from various quarters. In a second video post, Nair had apologised for the comments he made and said he was ready to face any penalty as per the law.
