Ten ITIs to be elevated to global standards: Minister

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Minister for Labour and Skill Development T P Ramakrishnan said 10 ITIs will be elevated to international standards with the support of KIFBI. He said a project of Rs 229 crore is progressing. He added the government is trying to elevate the level of all ITIs and said after this government assumed office, 9 new ITIs were opened and the process for opening of 5 ITIs is progressing. He was speaking after inaugurating the online portal for admission to ITIs.

The government is implementing methods to increase the training levels of the ITIs and added new trades which are required for the current times is being incorporated in the syllabus. Along with job-oriented courses, skill development courses will also be functional, the minister said. The government is trying to provide placements for students who pass out of the ITIs. Strengthening placement cells and conducting job fairs, students will be given placements, he said.

Through spectrum job fair 13,291 students were given placement. Those who are undergoing ITI training will be provided 1 lakh accident insurance from this year onwards, he said. In all women ITIs free lunch is provided, the minister said.

The government will be implementing a free lunch scheme in stages in all ITIs where students from SC/ST category are in large numbers. He also said the new ideas and innovations of students of ITIs will be encouraged and added those students of government ITIs who perform well will be provided higher training abroad. The government wants to provide maximum job opportunities to youngsters and as part of this the labour and skill development department has opened a new job portal.
