Driver assault: CB yet to record statements of ADGP and family

The Crime Branch team probing the assault case registered by police driver Gavaskar against ADGP Sudesh Kumar’s daughter is yet to record her statement

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM:  The Crime Branch team probing the assault case registered by police driver Gavaskar against ADGP Sudesh Kumar’s daughter is yet to record her statement, strengthening doubts the police are soft pedalling in the case. The team is yet to obtain the statements of the ADGP, the former Armed Battalion chief, and his wife who was with the girl when the alleged attack took place.

Anti-piracy Cell SP Prashanthan Kani, who is monitoring the case, said the statements of the ADGP or his family have not been recorded yet. He said the process will duly be completed once the family is available to them.“We are awaiting the family to record their statements. Once they reach here, we will do it. Maybe, it will happen by Saturday,” said Prashanthan. Gavaskar’s statement was already recorded when he underwent treatment at the Medical College Hospital here.

Crime Branch sources said they will check the veracity of ADGP’s daughter’s statement after it came to light that she had listed being hit by an autorickshaw as the reason for injury in the case-sheet while seeking treatment at a private hospital here. However, in her complaint, she had alleged the injury happened when Gavaskar tried to outrage her modesty. These conflicting statements are baffling the probe team. DGP Loknath Behera had made it clear that action will be taken against if her complaint turns out to be fake.
