IUML to 'school' leaders and cadre on the art of politics

In a first-of-its-kind initiative in its six-decade-long history, the IUML is set to open a 'political school' to help its leaders and members keep up with the emerging changes in politics.

MALAPPURAM: In a first-of-its-kind initiative in its six-decade-long history, the IUML is set to open a ‘political school’ to help its leaders and members keep up with the emerging changes in politics.
The initiative also looks to make the leaders and members capable of tackling issues. The school will function as a permanent centre for schooling on politics, capacity building and intellectual exchange.
“Our prime aim is to bring out well-educated politicians who are cognizant of IUML’s legacy, history, political issues, current affairs and challenges. The ‘students’ here will be educated on how to discharge their duties both to the party and society. It will produce ideal social servants, legislators and  troubleshooters,” said IUML state general secretary K P A Majeed.

As per the plan, the school will admit 60 persons per batch. The year-long classes will be handled by field experts. There is no age limit for participants.“The school will groom and mould budding politicians and hone the skill of veterans. For the party, the two sections assume equal importance,” Majeed said.In addition to history, human resources, social service and legislation, the school will lay stress on culture, heritage, minority politics, communication, media watch and social media.

“At a time when practical politics is ruling the roost, we are in dire need of a healthier turn. Politicians with knowledge in arts and culture are the mantra of our initiative,” said IUML state committee member P A Rasheed. The centre will also concentrate on bringing out communicators who will represent the party in media debates and social media.

Apart from Rasheed, party ideologues M I Thangal and M C Vadakara will draft the syllabus, while state secretary P M Sadiq Ali and C P Cheriya Mohammed will monitor the school’s functioning. If things pan out as expected, the school will open in Malappuram on August 15.
