THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: While the KSRTC joint council of trade unions claims that the corporation did not suffer any losses on account of Tuesday’s lightning strike in protest against outsourcing reservation counters to Kudumbashree, the corporation CMD Tomin J Thachankkary claims that the corporation sustained a loss of Rs 1 crore.

The CMD has requested the government to initiate action against the agitators behind the lightning strike.  Along with the letter to the government, he has attached a list of 42 employees who were involved in organising the strike.

“The government is analysing the report submitted by the CMD. We could only discuss the matter as there was no such agenda on taking any action. As of now, no final decision has been taken in this regard,” said Transport Minister A K Saseendran.

The three-and-half-hour-long lightning strike was withdrawn following discussions held with the transport minister the same day. As per CMD’s statement, 1,200 services were cancelled or delayed.“If the government says that its illegal to take action against the employees, then the Industrial Disputes Act and other laws need to be amended,” said Thachankkary.

As per the records on Tuesday, the collection was Rs 6.47 crore, which is about Rs 83 lakh more than the collection recorded by the corporation on October 14, said a corporation employee.
