KOZHIKODE: A four-to-five-day tour package to hear historical and mythical stories of Vadakkanpattu directly from the families related to it, experience various aspects of martial arts and visit temples and places related to the northern ballads.’

Feeling nostalgia? Yes, a package for giving this experience is being prepared by the Responsible Tourism (RT) Mission. State Mission coordinator K Rupesh Kumar said tourism possibilities of Vadakkanpattu and Kadathanadu have not been tapped yet and the mission was in discussions with stakeholders.
As part of the package, tourists can visit Thacholi Othenan’s house, temples such as Lokanarkavu and experience rejuvenation tips of Kalari and Yoga.

Under RT Mission, tourism is being used as a tool for development of village and local communities, eradicating poverty and giving emphasis to women empowerment.

The mission has also decided to include Naduthuruthu and Pavecheerpu in the circuit. Also, a study will be conducted to develop Olavappara as destination after minister A K Saseendran put forward a request to the mission.

As an encouraging sign, all the families in Naduthuruthu village have joined the tourism mission. There are 78 families in the village and the people have registered 137 units to implement the scheme. Rupesh said, in the history of RT Mission, this is the first time all families of a village are associating with a project. Even, Kumarakom, considered the model of responsible tourism, has not registered all the families.

When a tourist visits the village as part of the project, all the families will get benefits one way or the other. From the package amount collected from each visitor, the mission will set aside `100 and form a corpus fund. Every year, the fund will be equally divided and distributed to each family. Rupesh said the package amount is not finalised and discussions are on to fix it.
