Students' union polls pass off peacefully

ROURKELA: Students' union elections passed off peacefully in various colleges across the Steel City today.

Sandip Patel was elected president of Rourkela Government (Autonomous) College while Biswajit Sahu became the students’ union president of Rourkela Municipal College. Samir Ranjan Nayak, Manas Das, Sanjib Singh, Subrat Routara and Rajiv Thakur were elected presidents of Ispat College, Rourkela College (earlier Rourkela Evening College), Vedvyas College, Gandhi Mahavidyalaya and Neelasaila College respectively.

Subhra Swati Routray was elected president of SG Women’s College while Bhanupriya Paramanik became president of Priyadarshini College.

SAMBALPUR: Students' union elections concluded in various colleges across western Orissa excepting L N College, Jharsuguda, where none of the candidates met the criteria. However, unlike in the past, the spark was missing this time due to strict guidelines by Lyngdoh Commission. In Gangadhar Meher (Autonomous) College, Sambalpur, MCA student Anupa Panigrahi was elected president, while MCom student Mukesh Kumar Gupta and Plus Three student Manas Ranjan Patel were elected vice-president and general secretary respectively.

In Sambalpur Government Women's’ College, Afrin Bi was declared the new president while Priyadarshini Sahu was elected vice-president. Likewise Tabassum Parvin has become general secretary.

In Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose College, Ranjit Kumar Behera and Dushmanta Kumar Tripathy were elected president and vice-president uncontested.

JHARSUGUDA: Rajmohan Pradhan was elected president of Belpahar College. In Brajrajnagar College, the post of president could not be filled up as none met the criteria fixed by Lyngdoh Commission. However, Soumya Ranjan Parischa was elected general secretary unopposed.

DEOGARH : Elections were held for the first time after eight years in Deogarh College amid tight security. While Bikash Naik was elected president, Kumar Samal and Bikash Kumar Agrawal have become vice-president and general secretary respectively.

MALKANGIRI: The students' union elections in Balimela College of Science & Technology and Malkangiri College today passed off peacefully. In Balimela College, Kishore Kumar Khosla, a Plus Three Science Final year student, was elected president. In Malkangiri college, Gananath Khilla, a Plus Three Arts final year student, was elected president while Harichand Bairagi was elected general secretary.
