ROURKELA: A schoolgirl, Anuradha Ram (14), allegedly committed suicide by setting herself afire to avoid the stigma of being called a thief.
Reports said the tragic incident occurred on Wednesday at Bondamunda area here when she visited her friend’s house. Upon return her friend’s mother reached her house and raised a hue and cry claiming Anuradha had stolen a pair of silver anklets. Unable to bear the humiliation, she set herself on fire.
Anuradha was admitted to Ispat General Hospital where she succumbed on Friday night.
Bondamunda police on Saturday registered an unnatural death case.
