Kharif Strategy: Non-paddy Crops to Get Priority

BHAWANIPATNA: An area of 3,83,721 hectares will be covered under non-paddy crops like pulses, oilseeds and cereals in the ensuing kharif season.

Likewise, paddy will be grown over 1,90,000 hectares.

Crop diversification will be done in 12,712 hectares from paddy to non-paddy and less remunerative to lucrative crops.

This was decided at a highlevel meeting, chaired by agriculture and irrigation officials.

It was also decided to take up mixed crop farming in 23,746 hectares.

While maize will be grown in 17,500 hectares, different kinds of cereals over 2,10,000 hectares, oilseeds in 18,200 hectares and pulses in 90,240 hectares.

The officials decided to extend cotton cultivation to 40,000 hectares as against 36,369 hectares last year.

Irrigation water would be provided to 1,41,353 hectares.

The officials discussed supply of certified and hybrid seeds and accordingly, 44,871 quintals of paddy seeds besides other seeds will be provided to farmers through primary agriculture societies and private dealers under the Odisha Seed Supplies Corporation.
