MALKANGIRI: Ten child labourers were rescued by Mathili police and Child Welfare Committee members on Tuesday from Mathili market, 55 km from here. They were about to board a bus along with a middleman.

On a tip off, Child Welfare Committee chairman Nrusingh Charan Sethi and other members arrived at Mathili and nabbed the middleman Sapan Mondal.

Later, they lodged an FIR with the Mathili police and handed over the 10 children to police.  Of the 10, eight are minor girls while two are boys.

A labour officials team led by District Labour Officer Saroj Kumar Ranjito brought the rescued children to the district headquarters hospital for medical examination and later handed over them to their family members.
