BHUBANESWAR:  The Capital High School (CHS) will relive its history during the two-day diamond jubilee celebration from April 28.

Starting from the log book of the first principal Ganesh Chandra Mishra, who maintained every detail about the school to the passouts of the school who have brought laurels for the school, everything  will be reminisced and acknowledged during the  celebrations. It will begin  with a symbolic marathon that will start from the Capital Girls High School where CHS was first started with five classes from standard VI to standard X and was shifted to its present location in 1958. “The log book of the first principal has been scanned and will be a part of the souvenir,” said CHS headmaster Bandana Mohapatra.

HALL OF FAME: In these 60 years, the school has produced numerous achievers in fields like cricket, badminton, chess, football and academics. Chess player Subhashish Patnaik, documentary film-maker AK Bir and Prasanna Mishra who has held several portfolios in the State Government are alumni of the CHS. The school also boasts of a long list of students who were among the best 10 performers in HSC  examinations.

The school has plans for a residential accommodation for general caste students. Presently, the school has a hostel for SC and ST students. “Many students belonging to the general caste from the rural areas have to be refused admission as there are no hostel facilities for them,” said Mohapatra.

There will be several cultural programmes during the two-day event and a special postal cover will be released by Governor MC Bhandare. There will also be an interactive session between the former students and teachers of the school.

“We have been able to establish contact with around 60 former teachers of the school who will be felicitated during the  event. The top achievers of the school will also be felicitated,” said Mohapatra. The valedictory will be attended by Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik. A blood donation camp has also been organised to mark the event.
