Balasore Alloys served disconnection notice

The power distribution company, Nesco, on Thursday slapped a fresh disconnection notice on Balasore Alloys Limited (BAL) charging it a defaulter of electricity dues.

The notice was served nearly six days after BAL lost the battle in the High Court. On August 24, the High Court, saying not maintainable, had dismissed BAL’s writ petition, which had prayed to quash the disconnection notice issued by Nesco.

Nesco and BAL are at loggerheads since long following non-payment of electricity dues of over Rs 167 crore. “A notice has been served to the company asking it to clear the dues within 15 days, failing which the electricity connection is liable for disconnection without any further notice,” said a Nesco official. It is the third disconnection notice to Nesco in the last eight months.

On December 16 last year Nesco had issued the disconnection notice asking BAL to pay the outstanding bill amounting to Rs 165,51,26,499 within 15 days against which the company had filed the writ.

Director (operations) of BAL, BN Panda admitted to have received the notice. He said he would take legal opinion before taking any measures to settle the dispute.
