BHUBANESWA/CUTTACK:  The Khurda district health administration on Saturday sealed a pathological laboratory in Bhubaneswar for running illegally without registration.

The action came a day after the Orissa High Court directed the Director of Medical Education and Training (DMET) to file a status report on nursing homes and private hospitals functioning in the Capital.

Acting of a complaint, a special squad of the Chief District Medical Officer (CDMO), Khurda, Dr Kamalini Mohapatra raided the Arogyam X-Ray and Patholab at Damana Chhak to find that it was operating without registration. The lab had not even applied for registration and thus was sealed under instructions of the Khurda Collector, the CDMO said.

The Orissa High Court on Friday had directed the DMET to file an affidavit on the number of the nursing homes, private hospitals, diagnostic centres and laboratories that are functioning illegally in Bhubaneswar.

It had sought to know how many of the health centres and labs had applied for registration as well as the status of renewal process.

The nursing homes and diagnostic centres that have not applied for registration should be sealed immediately, the Court had ordered.
