BHUBANESWAR: A couple allegedly committed suicide by jumping in front of running trains at the Lingaraj railway station on Tuesday. The deceased have been identified as Rabindra Barik (35) and his wife Jyotsnarani (26). The couple had a five-year-old daughter and seven-year-old son.

Native of Ganjam, Rabindra along with his family was residing in Housing Board Colony of Dumduma area and was working for a Pokhariput-based NGO.

 The GRP said the couple took the extreme measure over a family dispute. While Rabindra killed himself by jumping in front of a running train at 10 am, receiving information about his death, Jyotsnarani committed suicide at around 2.30 pm.

She also jumped in front of a running train on the railway tracks, 100 metres from the Lingaraj passenger halt. The bodies have been sent

for post-mortem and cases registered.

Suicide

In another incident, an engineering student allegedly committed suicide by jumping in front of a running train at the Bomikhal overbridge here at 8.30 am on Tuesday. He has been identified as Sumit Kumar Panda (23), a fourth semester student of ITER. He was a resident of Laxmisagar. GRP said Sumit took the extreme step following an argument with his father, Santosh Panda on Monday night. A case has been registered.

Woman Injured in Acid Attack

A woman of Niladri Vihar was allegedly injured in an acid attack by her servant on Tuesday. The accused, identified as Krushna Chandra Praharaj, has been arrested by Chandrasekharpur Police and produced in court.  Police said Praharaj has defended himself by claiming that he was spraying pesticide in the garden and accidentally sprayed it on the woman who was standing nearby.
