TALCHER: Much to the relief of the MCL authorities, the coal company comprising Odisha coalfields, registered the long awaited positive growth on February 11.

Till the end of January, its growth was minus 1.3 per cent. The success could be achieved 10 months into the current financial year.

Director (technical) A K Tiwari said the mines of MCL till February 11 produced 83 million tonnes (MT) as against the 82.91 MT during the corresponding period of last financial year of 2010-11. It is an excess of about 83,000 tonnes.  “In the coming days the production rate per day is expected to jump to 4.8 lakh tonnes from the current level of 3.8 lakh tonnes coal mostly from 16 open cast mines of the company spread over the districts of Angul, Jharsuguda and Sundargarh,” he added.

Tiwari also said the company is most likely to produce 103 to 104 MT of coal in the current fiscal, three MT more than last year.
