SAINTALA (Balangir): Six New Year revellers died and one escaped narrowly when the car in which they were travelling rammed a tree near the Balangir-Saintala stretch of NH-26 near Kareldhua bridge here on Sunday.

 The deceased, all in their early 20s, have been identified as Subham Mahakur, Bunty Parua, Ajit Bag, Paritosh Singh, Sudesh Singhdeo and Shankar Pradhan. The injured Jagan Naik has been admitted to district headquarters hospital and his condition is stated to be critical. All the youths belonged to Balangir town.  While it is still not clear where the youths were headed for, they had started from Balangir and driven barely 30 km when the accident took place. Sources said driver of the car lost control over the vehicle which led to the mishap.
