ROURKELA: 262 Sarpanch Posts in Sundargarh Dist Day one of filing nomination papers ended on a lacklustre note in the 17 blocks of Sundargarh district on Saturday.

Till 4.30 pm no nomination was filed for the 35-member Zilla Parishads. One candidate filed papers for sarpanch post in Sadar block while 10 filed for ward member posts in Sundargarh Sadar, Bargaon and Gurundia blocks, said District Panchayat Officer Guruva Singh.

Nominations for sarpanch and ward member posts are being accepted through 262 gram panchayat offices being manned by designated officials selected from the  village level workers (VLWs) and village agriculture workers (VAWs) who will also carry out scrutiny.

Similarly, 17 block offices will receive nomination papers for samiti member posts. Contestants for ZP constituencies are to file nominations at the Sundargarh, Panposh and Bonai sub-collector offices, Singh added.

Collectorate sources informed that one DRDA Project Director, three Sub-Collectors, three ITDA Project Administrators and one Deputy Collector have been deputed as nodal officers to supervise polling activities on day-to-day basis. Another round of training programme for polling personnel would be held on Tuesday.

The district will go to polls in five phases from February 11 for 35 ZP seats, 262 sarpanch posts and as many samiti member seats besides 3,482 ward member seats.
