KENDRAPARA: A 24-year-old girl, who was repeatedly gangraped for over a month, awaits justice. To worsen things, the accused who were released after being detained for a day, are absconding.

The girl of Taradipala was residing in Saliasahi in Bhubaneswar with her parents for the last three years. Her father , a plumber, is often away from home to work in Kolkata.

Taking advantage of this, on November 18 night, a neighbour Sandhyarani Hota along with Sarat Sethi and Chandramani Sethi knocked the door. When the girl answered the knock, she was kidnapped by the three and taken to Old Bhubaneswar where she was confined to a rented room. Sarat and Chandramani repeatedly raped her for more than a month.

Later, they took her to Vijayawada where they again sexually assaulted her in a room, said the girl’s father.

“My daughter was dropped at Tinumuhani Chhack in Kendrapara town by the accused on January 7. She managed to reach the village in an auto-rickshaw and narrate her woes,” said her father.  The parents did not act immediately fearing social stigma but the public outcry in Pipili rape case gave them the courage to come out in the open, her father said.

The victim’s brother had filed an FIR against the accused persons in the Mahila police station in Bhubaneswar on November 19 after the girl was kidnapped. “After my son filed an FIR against the accused on November 19, police nabbed them on November 20 but released them the following day though the girl was still missing,” alleged her father.

Kendrapara police officials reached the village on Tuesday to investigate the case, said Mrutunjaya Swain, Inspector of Pattamundai police station. Mahila police station officials in Bhubaneswar declined comment.
