MALKARUGIRI: A Maoist camp was destroyed on Sunday and several weapons and explosive devices seized during a joint combing operation by security forces in Malkangiri. On a tip-off, the elite anti-Maoist Special Operation Group (SOG) force and police launched combing operations and spotted the camp in Tekguda forest under Kalimela area in the wee hours.

Though the Red Rebels fled from the scene on getting information about the operations, police seized three electronic detonators, over 50 metres of wire used for landmines, two country-made rifles and 24 live cartridges from the spot. A camera flash and some Maoist posters and leaflets were also seized.

On Friday, security forces had seized several explosives and Maoist uniforms from a Maoist camp near Old Niliguda village under Podia police limits.

Prior to this, huge quantities of explosives and other articles were seized by police during raids in several areas of this Maoist-infested district.
