BHADRAK: Three days after a nine-year-old was allegedly raped, Simulia and Basudevpur police are still groping in the dark and no arrest has been made.

The IIC of Simulia police station, Sukadev Tudu, said, “We cannot proceed in the case as neither the victim nor her family members are cooperating. While the doctors did not allow us to record the victim’s statement, her family members are keeping themselves aloof from police.”

The family even turned away the police saying they had not registered any FIR, said Tudu.

Police said, the girl of Sadeipada village under Bhadrak’s Basudevpur police limits had gone to her relative’s house at Ajabana village under Simulia police limits in Balasore district.

The incident took place on Saturday night and the girl sustained serious injuries. She was brought to Bhadrak district headquarters hospital the same night by her guardian.

Amita Das, who examined the victim, informed Bhadrak town police suspecting rape. Bhadrak town police after preliminary investigation transferred the case to Simulia police station, the place of occurrence.

Meanwhile, the victim has been shifted to SCB Medical in Cuttack as her condition turned critical, police said. A case has been registered.
