'Victim not responding to verbal commands'

CUTTACK: The SCB Medical College and Hospital, Cuttack, authorities on Wednesday submitted before the Orissa High Court that the 19-year-old Pipili girl, alleged victim of gangrape and assault, is not responding to verbal commands.

 As per the earlier direction of the HC, the Government Advocate filed a status report on the victim’s treatment and health condition furnished by the medical college. In the report submitted by Dean and Principal and Superintendent, it was stated that the victim was not responding to verbal commands and was spontaneously opening her eyes.

 It was further submitted before the HC that assistance of Dr Bhabani Shankar Das, former Director NIMHANS, has been taken and assistance from Dr Manjari Tripathy through video conference. Tripathy is an Additional Professor of Neurology at All India Institute of Medical Science.

 Apart from that, medical college authorities have also taken the assistance of Dr Arpita Priyadarsini, an Associate Professor of VSS Medical College and Hospital, Burla, and a sleep disorder specialist. Similarly, help of Dr LD Roul, a music therapy specialist and Professor of Medicine, has also been sought. Besides, advisories of all the doctors are being carried out regularly.  Submitting its status report, the Crime Branch stated that all the four named in the FIR have been arrested and remanded in judicial custody.

 The division bench comprising Chief Justice V Gopalgowda and Justice BN Mohapatra adjourned further hearing of the PIL writ petition, filed by advocate Prabir Kumar Das, to next week.
