BHUBANESWAR: As their parent association staged a demonstration, home guards stayed away from duty on Friday, leaving crucial policing work affected in the city.

As part of the All Odisha Home Guards Federation’s agitation demanding pay parity with their West Bengal counterparts, the members stayed off work. As a result, the PCR vans of Commissionerate of Police was hit since it is the home guards who are roped in as drivers.

The home guards were demanding Class IV employee status, employees provident fund and other benefits from the State Government.
