BALASORE: The resignation of newly-elected Congress-supported Soro Panchayat Samiti chairman Saroj Mohapatra has put the party leaders in a fix. Mohapatra resigned from the post on health grounds nine days after he was crowned.

With the reasons behind Saroj resignation still a mystery, none is ready to buy the reason of health problems.

Sources close to him say fear of future legal complication may have forced him to take the step. Saroj, a father of five children, violated the stipulated two-child norm under the Odisha Panchayati Raj Act.

While several attempts to contact Saroj and Soro MLA Surendra Pramanik turned futile, lobbying has started by the two other aspirants to the post. However, the selection will depend on election of vice-chairman which will be held on Wednesday.

Congress has absolute majority to form the panchayat samiti of Soro block with 15  seats of 22 in its kitty.

Now lobbying has started for the two other contenders, Srikanta Jena and Satyanarayan Mohapatra, who were in the race for the post.
