BHUBANESWAR: Disability certificates will be provided to differently-abled persons at the Samarthya Shivir that would be conducted by Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) at the BMC Yatri Niwas on March 30.

The Shivir will be open for differently-abled persons at 60 wards of the BMC. During the one-day programme, a group of doctors will review each applicant individually. Medical tests will be conducted and based on the extent of the disability, certificates will be issued.

This year, the BMC will not only issue disability certificates but also distribute

bus passes and pension. The bus passes will allow them to get concession across the State.

“It is difficult for a disabled person to go for the medical test at one place, get the certificate from another and claim the bus pass from yet another place. The purpose of this programme is to bring everything under one roof for increased convenience,” said  Mayor Ananta Narayan Jena.

Doctors from the Municipal Hospital and a few other hospitals will be brought in for the purpose, said Jena.

Around 12 counters will be set up. There will be a counter for the pre-assessibility of disability and registration, four counters for issue of medical certificate, one for income certificate, one for bus pass and another for issue of disability pension.

The day will start with the medical tests. “We may add a railway pass if possible, but it has not been decided yet,” said Jena and added that all the formalities will be completed on the same day.

Arrangements have been made to create awareness about the programme through leaflets to be distributed by  Anganwadi workers.
