A tastefully done flower decoration enhances the beauty of any occasion, party or a wedding. And the celebrations at mandaps and hotels are a testimony to this trend with newer patterns being experimented by florists every other day.
Today the market is flooded with a wide range of creative and innovative flower decoration ideas to suit every budget. ‘‘We usually design our arrangements by an expert floral designer. This trend has grown extensively in the last few years. Rose, Oriental lilies, carnations, Asiatic lily and gerbera are the flowers which are favoured especially at weddings and theme parties,’’shared Niranjan Padhee, Manager, Ferns and Petals.
Event planners are experimenting with the organic feel and nature-inspired décor and designing arrangements depending on the occasion, personal taste and budget. ‘‘A good floral arrangement can cost anything between ` 20,000 and ` 50,000, depending on the choice of flowers and occasion. A simple centre floral decoration can beautify a party but the entrance, corridors and pandal backdrop have to be decorated for a wedding which costs more. The rate of flowers fluctuates according to the demand and availability. ‘’We have flowers flown in from Hyderabad and Pune, but now we have special flowers cultivated in Athagarh to cater to the local demand,’’ said Basant Kumar Rana, Proprietor, Moonlight flower decoration, who has been in the field for the last 17 years.
Wedding flower decor needs to be very carefully done and requires special attention since its the decoration that draws attention first and sets the mood.
‘‘We had an Orchid theme for my daughter’s wedding and our guests still compliment us on the mesmerising floral decor,’’ said Devyani Chaudhury.
‘‘These days floating flower arrangement is regarded auspicious and one of the most intricate flower arrangements which is done at the entrance. Lilacs, rose and orchids are all time favourites for such arrangements,’’ added Rajesh of Sandy Towers.
