The strike by the Council of Higher Secondary Education (CHSE) employees was called off on Thursday evening after the Department of Higher Education (DHE) promised that most of their demands would be accepted.
CHSE Employees Association, comprising around 270 members, had called an indefinite strike over numerous demands. The major demand was that CHSE should be given back the right to conduct the e-admission and e-registration of students to Plus Two colleges. Also around ` 60 lakh paid to Student Academic Management System (SAMS) for e-registration in 2011 be returned to CHSE. DHE had already asked SAMS to return the amount, but they had not done so yet. Higher Education Minister Badri Narayan Patra ordered that the amount be returned to CHSE at the earliest.
“Most of their demands will be conceded by the DHE and the changes put into effect very soon,” said DHE principal secretary Gagan Dhal. Another accepted demand was that from now on, transfer of students from one college to another will be done by CHSE and not by the State Government.
The employees urged by CHSE authorities, joined their services in their respective sections as a goodwill gesture.
