Cabinet panel to frame admission rules

The Cabinet Committee, constituted to study different issues before formulating a rule on admission to technical institutions and medical colleges, on Friday decided to hold its next meeting with related associations on  December 15.

The Cabinet Committee, which met under the chairmanship of Agriculture Minister Debi Prasad Mishra, will also decide on the fees for admission to technical institutions and medical colleges and enforcement of reservation for different groups.

This was the second meeting of the committee.

As per the decision during the first meeting of the committee, a high level official committee had toured Andhra Pradesh and West Bengal to study the system in those States. The official committee has since submitted its report to the State Government.

Information Technology Minister Raghunath Mohanty told this paper that Andhra Pradesh and West Bengal do not have separate laws in this regard. But admission to the technical institutions and medical colleges is under the control of Government in those States.

The report of the official committee was discussed during Friday’s meeting. The next meeting has been fixed on December 15 where representatives from different associations will be invited for a discussion on these issues.

The Agriculture Minister said that a decision will be taken by the committee taking into consideration judgments of different courts, opinion of the associations and government rules in this regard. Minister of State for Food Supplies and Consumer Pratap Keshari Deb, Biju Patnaik University of Technology (BPUT) Vice-Chancellor J K Satpathy, members of the official committee and senior officials attended the meeting.
